Takeru Omiya

Takeru Omiya is a PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Coimbra, specializing in the development of advanced lubrication systems. His research combines diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings with innovative additives such as functionalized copolymers or ionic liquids to enhance lubrication performance and reduce wear.
Takeru has presented his work internationally and received several awards, including the STLE Early Career Award and the John B. Fenn, Sr. Foundation Endowed Scholarship. He previously worked at Shell Japan as a project leader, where he led the development of fuel-efficient diesel engine oils and a predictive maintenance system for engine oil degradation using machine learning. He has authored 12 scientific papers and holds 3 patents.
